Donley 12th in 2006 Bailey’s 300
Riding a wave of momentum after their second win of 2006, Jerame Donley and his family’s Donley Motorsports team were looking for a solid run in the Bailey’s 300 this past Sunday afternoon. The teams hard work throughout the weekend provided them their third straight start in the Bailey’s 300 and their best overall finish of 12th.
Over 100 cars entered the Bailey’s 300, largely considered the “Super Bowl” of NASCAR Late Model Stock Car racing. Despite a quick weather change before qualifying that made the Martinsville Speedway surface slick, Jerame was able to qualify his car 28th out of the 102 cars that took time. With only 22 cars making it in on time, Jerame started the second heat race on the outside pole. Jerame jumped to the lead from the start and stayed at the point until lap 19 when Dennis Setzer started to pressure him for the top spot. In an effort to avoid tearing his equipment up, Jerame settled in behind Setzer and finished second, placing him in the 28th starting position for the main event.
Through the first 100-laps Jerame paced himself in the #5 LJM Machine Co., Inc. Grand Prix, moving into the 20th spot prior to the halfway break. During the break the team made a couple changes and put two new tires on the car. The racing started to heat up in the second half of the event and so did Jerame. He battled his way to a 12th place finish in his third attempt at the Bailey’s 300.
Jerame and his family’s Donley Motorsports team will return to Motor Mile Speedway October 14th for a 150 late companion event with the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modifieds. Jerame and the team are looking to make it two in a row at the Virginia short-track.
