Donley 2nd in Star Country 150 at Motor Mile
After scoring his second victory of the season at Motor Mile Speedway in late September, Jerame Donley and his family’s Donley Motorsports, LJM Machine #5 had big expectations heading into this past Saturday’s Star Country 150 at the 4/10ths Radford, Virginia oval.
After a great practice session, Jerame laid down a lap of 16.068 seconds, placing him on the outside pole for the 150-lap feature. At the start, Jerame fell into second place behind 2006 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series National Champion Phillip Morris. Keeping Morris in sight, Jerame paced himself, saving his tires and equipment for the final segment of the race.
With just 13-laps to go, Jerame dove to the inside of Morris as they headed into turn three. Coming off turn four Jerame pulled ahead of Morris, but an untimely caution flew as the two hit the start/finish line. "Man, I hate that caution came out. I felt like we had him, but that killed it,” commented Jerame. The caution flag put the #5 back to second for the restart with just seven laps to go. Glued to Morris’ rear bumper, Jerame was unable to find his way around Morris in the closing laps. “We were still coming and with a few more laps, I think I could have got him. I was giving it my all, but it just wasn't meant to be," stated Jerame after the race.
Busy with his Mechanical Engineering study work at UNC-Charlotte, Jerame and the Donley Motorsports team will be off until the “Myrtle Beach 400” on November 19th. Stay tuned for the latest news on Jerame Donley and Donley Motorsports.
